Highway 21 from Tornio to Kilpisjärvi also carries the grandiose name of European Route 8. The northernmost 150 kilometers of the road are in very bad shape and the road is narrow. Still, there are Finns living along this remote stretchs of the road. The long polar night and roads blocked by traffic accidents are a part of their everyday life.
